I wouldn't worry about becoming an a-hole. If you are worried about that you already care what people think, which will make you self-conscious, and therefore less able to reach your full potential as a man. In my view, the only opinions you should care about are those of the men around you, men who are skilled, accomplished, and smart, men who deserve your respect.

You should definitely stop chasing. If you feel like you need a woman, you'll never find one worth having. Spend time focusing on yourself, becoming the man you want to be, and when you are comfortable in that skin you'll probably find women are much more receptive to your advances, and some might chase you.
