Additionally, if consoles now have the option of remaining permanently offline, even when playing (single player) games, how will Microsoft harness the "power of the cloud" in their games?

Maybe the cloud is only used for online multiplayer games? Just a guess, I really don't know much about it.

easy.

the ones who aren't connected to Live or have live accounts won't have that perk along with several other perks of paying for online service.
