We used to take chicken leg quarters and let them sit in the sun in a bucket till it made its own juice and would gag a maggot. Then take poles, make a brace and suspend the chicken above the water from a huge arse hook and close pin the line to the pole. Put about 40 feet of line coiled up on the bank.

not necessary. you're not lipping a bass. once he swallows the small hook, it's over. no fighting because the hook is pulling on his guts. very calm process.
