It should be around 70% and if not that's sad. Every player should be able to get a bunt down. It's not hard.

3-5 in sac bunts/attempts.

EDIT: Sorry, that stat is wrong. He had none.

Even if he pops out, or strikes out, we still have a base-runner with 1 out.

Assuming everything else holds as it did (though, it wouldn't have). Foster walks, and Moore drives in the tying run.

Your all American senior left fielder can't execute a sac bunt?

Seriously? Better be upwards of 80%

Bunting is part of a baseball. You practice it all summer and fall long.

And the odds of hitting into a DP with Raph DP Rhymes AB is much higher.

Bingo we have a winner. if you can control the bat you can bunt. If Rhymes can hit and run he should be able to bunt, they have been taught to bunt since 9 yrs old.

He hasn't laid down a bunt all year successfully. Not having him try was a terrible coaching call. But, the bigger problem is that it appears our head coach doesn't believe bunting is a legitimate part of baseball. He doesn't call for it nearly enough (especially with a dominant pitcher like Nola). And, our players suck at bunting. Presumably because our coach doesn't care for it.

Another thing to take into consideration....who's to say he doesn't get the count to 3-0 and make the guy throw 3 strikes?

Actually it was more likely he would hit into a dbl play. I really think he has some kind of record hitting into dbl plays.

the problem is sac bunting has been a big problem for LSU for several seasons... how many times this season alone has the runner at 2nd been thrown out... or the batter somehow got to 2 strikes?

this isn't just a Rhymes thing... it's a whole team problem... however they coach sac bunting needs to be overhauled going into the future

ETA: obviously sac bunting was the right call there... but I believe the UCLA 3B was playing up for the bunt... a foot more towards 2nd base and that's a base hit into LF

Yep. It's pretty apparent that Paul Mainieri doesn't believe in bunting. It's almost like he reads the rant and thinks your a puss if you bunt. Along with him crying about the change in bats, I don't know what his problem is.

This isn't batting practice or a homerun derby. It's baseball. Maybe he should stop crying about things he can't control and teach his players how to play every phase of the game well.
