Maineiri cost us big time in that inning. I won't blame him for the loss, but what a costly decision.

With that said, let's go beat the piss out of UNC. This team is not done yet.

When Rhymes came up I said please God bunt him so the obvious doesn't happen. Rhymes squares for two and I said whew. Then he hits into a DP on 2-0 count. I nearly had a seizure.

He puts the bunt on the first 2 pitches. Once the count gets to 2-0 you know UCLA doesn't want to go 3-0 and risk walking Katz into scoring position. You figure (and got) a cock shot and one of your best hitters missed it. Plain and simple. And you don't start Katz bc if he gets thrown out then your really dead.

Easy to make a judgement when you know the outcome. Hindsight is 20-20 of course. Didn't have an issue with the call.

Looking at it after the fact, yeah a bunt would have been better. I do understand the reasoning of swinging away there, because you have a big bat up there with a hitter's count and a pitcher who is trying to throw a strike. The bunt was obviously on until it got into a hitters count. Maybe we got greedy and went for more than just playing for the tie, but it backfired.

In the end we cannot change how we played all season to get us here and play small ball, we just need to find the holes out there and do what we do. If any team can make a run its us. We've had games this year similar to this one, but not two in a row. Once the bats get hot, it's on baby!
