last remaining "movie stars"?

with Spielberg ranting about how movies like Lincoln are going away from theaters and how the movie business will "implode" I personally think he is being a bit dramatic. however it does make you think about the "movie star" constantly fading out. back in the day people used to love and couldn't wait to see the newest movie out by certain actors. nowadays its all about superheroes and terribly acted franchise films.

do not count former actors who used to be considered a huge name movie star. only count the ones who to this day can still consistently pull in the money simply by their name on the cover.

His dad will buy a studio just so his son can act

Will has taken a pretty good hit because of that with "After Earth" currently flopping. no one gives a shite about his son.

It was on a $130M budget and 3 weeks in it currently has brought in about $50M (after the theaters 50% cut of the gross).

The film industry is in its next stage of evolution. It was initially a producer's game, then became a director's game, and is now becoming a writer's game (you can think TV for this).

Some big names are still relevant, but ultimately, you have to put them in the right project with an idea/story that intrigues people.

As for Jaden Smith, I'll never get the hate for the kid. He's been in three movies his entire life. I'll never get why people hate on his dad for getting him gigs in movie. If you could help your son out in a career you've been extremely successful in, you'd do the same damn thing. What parent doesn't want their child to achieve some success?

It's not exclusive to the Smiths either. You think Julia Roberts didn't help out her niece Emma? What about Anjelica and the other Hustons helping out Jack? You think George Clooney didn't get ahead because of Rosemary? What about Carlos (Charlie) and Emilio with help from ole Ramon Antonion (Martin Sheen)?

Clooney has more flops than Chris Paul.

Big name A-Lister no doubt, but I have never considered Clooney on the level of other movie stars. the only reason he super famous is because of the tabloids and the foreign press loves him.

sure he has had some decent hits, but he's had more flops. No one says "I can't wait to see the next George Clooney movie" as they are going to watch him play himself again. as a matter of fact the trailer for his newest one with Sandra Bullock called "Gravity" has reportedly been receiving mocking laughter in theaters around the country lol.
