I'm curious to what injuries he sustained in the crash that lead to his passing. I've seen pictures of the wrecked car and the cage seems to have held up fine and retained it's shape and the wing crumpled as it was supposed to do.

He was wearing a head and neck restraint as well. The only thing I can think of is that during the wreck maybe his head hit the track or wall during the accident. (which has happened before in open wheel sprint cars)

RIP Jason Leffler...I never got the chance to meet him personally but I've talked to many people who were around the dirt scene while he was coming up through USAC and he was very well thought of and loved. He did regular weekly interviews with Sirius NASCAR Radio and since his son was born that was the main passion in his life....he loved his son so much, I really pray for Charlie and his family going through such tough times.

I'm curious if maybe he had a health issue to begin with, they said he hit the wall head on when a part failed but were investigating...I can remember a few deaths in the 90's and early 2000's in the Northeast LA area dirt tracks where drivers died in wrecks but were due to health issues that caused the crash. Tough man...really sad.

I read a story that said after he hit the wall the car flipped violently. Considering the head/neck restrains aren't as secure in those types of cars, the whiplash could have done it. Or if some debris hit him the wrong way. I'msure we will learn more today.

Hav-A-Tampa turned into UDTRA and was eventually bought out by the World Dirt Racing Group and it is now called The World Of Outlaw Late Model Series. However, right now the best series is the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series.

If you ever want to see some good dirt late model racing, subscribe to dirtondirt.com. Has races from all over.

I hate this for Leffler though. He was a good guy and just loved to race no matter what he was driving.

Pretty sure the WoO was started as competitor to UDTRA, they didn't buy them out.

I was at the WoOLMs first event at Lernerville. It was awesome. Like 70 cars.

BTW from another board I frequent:

For the first time in my life I wish I wasn't at the track. It happened right in front of me. The car just hooked sideways on the straight away and smashed the wall nearly at full speed and proceeded to flip 2 times. God Speed Jason.

You cant keep Nascar drivers out of the racing they began on. Alot of those guys race in Ohio at tracks nearby me to this day. Even Kahne and T Stewart. Stewart owns his own track in Ohio also. Theres one dirt race at Stewarts track every year,(besides this year) where a bunch of Nascar drivers participate. Its very common.

It's awful, the feeling I have right now makes me thankful I was just young enough when Earnhardt died to not quite understand the impact of it.

If that happened today, or if I had been 22 then, I can't imagine how it would've effected me.

That was the day of my 15th birthday. Had my five closest buddies over for my party/to watch the race. Never forget it as long as I live.

Thoughts & prayers for Leffler's family and friends.

I was just reading something about Stewart and he said he raced in 46 dirt track events in 2012 alone. He's at a local track in my area this Saturday.

I was talking about you said "extradited" from his car.

Watch the video in the story I linked to. The girl doing the sports report used it. That's why I put it in quotes. Obviously it's the wrong word.

She meant extricated. Leffler wasn't conscious at the time they pulled him out of the car.
