What I like most about the San Antonio Spurs

They're not the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, or Los Angeles Lakers. They are not a mega-money conspiracy like the Miami Heat. They're a small market team that was put together by the rules, giving hope to other teams like New Orleans and Memphis and Oklahoma City.
Go, Spurs! You are American's team.

Any team playing the Heat is America's team.

I'm a Spurs fan but this comment is kinda stupid, Rex. No other teams broke any rules to form their teams.

So the big market teams never play by the rules?

I didn't say they did. Fans of small market NBA teams like New Orleans and Memphis can find comfort in the rules because of San Antonio.

While somewhat true, it isn't often a talent like Tony Parker falls to the 28th overall pick.
Plus, they had to suck majorly one year and got lucky that there was a consensus #1 the year they drafted Tim Duncan.
So, it's not like luck didn't play a part in it. I will say they've done a tremendous job SUSTAINING, which can sometimes be as difficult or more difficult than building.
They do a great job of finding a role for every player on their team and they do a great job of scouting and finding unheralded guys who can make a major impact.
But, let's not act like they didn't get fricking lucky with Tony Parker and that a team like the Pelicans don't need similar luck to get to the spurs level.

They are also at the pioneers of the flopping movement. Ginobli is patient zero for that (credit to bill Simmons for that line). They are the biggest whiners with the refs in the league. They represent everything bad about the modern game. Granted the Heat are floppers and whiners too but the Spurs were first. Both of these teams are easy to hate

Meh. The Spurs players pretty much did the same thing as the heat players. Took huge pay cuts so they could be together or I guess Stay together

Thread is stupid. Most franchises would do very well if they had landed Tim Duncan.

Miami is also a small market team technically.
