Was it really that offensive? I am curious to get a copy but it is out of print because Disney is ashamed of it. Are the characters from Splash Mountain in this?

Yes most of the splash mountain songs are in it too. I didn't think it was as racist as its portrayed. I found a copy on DVD at some random yard sale.

Why do they still have the characters in Splash Mountain if it was that offensive?

I wouldn't think so with your Rebel avatar.

Bootleg copies of SOS are very easy to find. You can also find torrents of this.

The funny thing is, the Uncle Remus stories were around long before Disney put them on.

You still hear Zippity Doo Daa all the time on the Disney Channel.

Yeah, it's pretty racist, especially for today's standards.

I own it on DVD though.

Disney would be raked over hot coals if they tried to put Song of the South out today.

I actually remember a teacher showing this movie to the class in 2nd grade

It's not bad. I let my kids watch it.

Well, probably so, but certainly not in a mean spirited sense. It's a very sweet film.

It's definitely not politically correct by any stretch of the imagination. Zip-a-dee-do-dah is a classic gdamnit

Believe it or not in Europe they still sell it and it's a huge hit still. That's probably why they keep the ride and merchandise store.
