Probably not. Chelsea desperately needed him to partner with Cahill last season since Terry missed a considerable amount of time. He also probably isn't a better DM than CB (at this point in his career) due to the fact that he really hasn't played there much. He will never have the quality of Terry, which is the standard that has been set at Chelsea. Cahill-Luiz just isn't a good enough CB pairing for Chelsea.

He's still a bundle of unharnessed potential at this point, which is disappointing because his development has theoretically ended.

That is what I am saying. And we still don't have anyone else to help fill in at CB and that is why he shouldn't be in the midfield.

Exactly, and that is why it is crazy for people to say without a doubt that he should be in the midfield when he has only played there a couple of times.

I've said before that I think in the future, he could possibly be a DM, but right now we don't have the personnel to play him in the midfield and right now all it is is an experiment.

ETA: and I think Jose can help DL a lot in his discipline and that he can become a world class centre-half with Jose's guidance. Just imo.
