Barcelona wants him because he can pass from the CB position. He can slot into their short passing game, or so the thought goes. Passing from the DM position is a different skill. Also Barca want him because he can play the high line quite easily, and is a big, physical option. Hummels is a better passer than Luiz as a CB, but is less dynamic.
