The reason is Monty and Dell aren't trading veterans just to open up minutes for a rookie again. Shabazz is probably the only player that's both good enough to have an immediate impact and fits a very open hole on the roster (wing scoring) without an established veteran in front of him. The problem with Shabazz is like the OP said, he's a love him or hate him prospect. Sure Burke/McCollum would probably be better than Vasquez in the long run, but as rookies they'd be a marginal upgrade at best. I believe in taking BPA, but the scope of this conversation is would anyone have significantly more of an instant impact than Saric and outside of Shabazz I think the answer is no barring trade or injury.

I agree and I don't really want them to trade a vet to open up a spot. That would put us back further. I also agree about Shabazz as I think he would be the guy who could help us the most immediately.

But i also believe one of the PGs, SGs, or Cs could log 20 minutes coming off the bench and play a valuable role on an improved team. They may not have a great PER but they would be contributing and building towards a better future
