I'm only about half done with GoT - I would wait until 14 - what you see on screen is equivalent to the level of graphic detail in the novels, and there are more numerous graphic depictions in the novels, from my reading so far.

So no for a 13 year old but ok for a 14 year old? That doesn't make much sense
To the OP, if you are fine with your child watching the show then you are probably fine with your child reading the books. Books are probably more graphic though.
