I posted this in the AR-15 thread when the crowdfunding started. Their original goal was $30,000 and they're about to hit $200,000. It ends at 7 AM central tomorrow.

ETA: I got 8

No, They're selling close to cost in order to raise funds for new CNC machines.

$150+ lower?

You can get them cheaper than 150 from bigger "name" companies fully completed

$25 is cheap but it isn't sketchy cheap. It is an 80% lower.

A lower is a lower is a lower for the most part. Great deal if you have the means to machine the rest out

Well lowers were $250-$300 a couple months ago.

I've never heard of an 80% lower so I didn't realize you still needed to do milling work on them

They're not serialized and you don't have to go through an FFL are two reasons why people buy them, apart from the hobby part of it.

Yeah the price has started leveling again thankfully

I think on an 80% you have to basically cut out the trigger group housing

Why no FFL needed seems stupid

It is not legally a firearm

It does not meet the requirements

Correct. You have to buy/make a jig to finish it out by drilling some holes. Then it's a finished lower. What they are selling you is not. I posted this link in that thread as well and I didn't think anyone actually clicked on it.

By law it isn't a gun. The ATF determines it is a gun past 80% complete. Should a block of aluminum be considered a gun? What about a block if aluminum with a trigger hole? Etc.

You can get a drill press from sears for $200 and do it, just use really good bits. Or go to a machine shop, by law you have to be the one to mill it out though.

If you and some friends get together you can buy several with the jig and it seems like a solid deal. I'm sure you can find someone with a drill press.

Do you then have to have an ffl to sell them once finished? Are they traceable considering they have no numbers?

It's a gray area. If you build it with the intent of selling it, you have to be a licensed firearm manufacturer and put a serial number on if. If you build it with the intent of keeping it, but then get hard up for cash, you can sell it as is, but I would still try to keep it as under the radar as possible as to avoid investigation.

ETA: if you are a licensed manufacturer building it with the intent if selling it, then yes, it must be traceable. If not, then no, by law govt does not need a record of it ever being created.
