I have never kayaked saltwater, or that area, but last year there were about 5 kayaks at the island just northwest of caribe, and they paddled from the island to the bridge area. I would say you are in a great spot to paddle out of, even going north.

Spent some time at the caribe a few years ago. Watched a guy murder the doormats by bouncing gulp around the rip rap and docks. He was fishing from the bank.
