Home Field is determined by national seeds. Are you actually referring to home field or are you talking about home team during the three games of the regional?

I know they alternate home team but I wanted to know how home field is determined. The explaination given makes sense.

To further answer the question, if a national seed doesn't win their regional, as is the case with the Rice/Oregon regional, the NCAA decides who the host team will be. Not sure how exactly they decide this, or if there is a set method for it but my guess is that if the 1 seed from the other regional won that regional, then it is more than likely that that team would host. Example - NC State was a 1 seed and Rice was a 2 seed. Rice beat the National Seed in Oregon, but NC State was a number one seed in their regional.
