Well two weeks were in the middle of the keys, far away from his vet and not really an ideal place to find stuff at a store. We became totally infested and advantix when we got back didn't rectify the situation immediately. Like I said, never had fleas ever. So not familiar with protocols. Vet informed me about dangers of of over the counter solutions. We were still finding fleas in my pups long hair a month after initial contact, which was two week before we could get a decent solution.
