No 1911 Thread on the First page - Ed Brown barrels

Some of you know I picked up a used Kimber Custom II recently. What none of us knew was that the Bar-sto (hyphen for KR) barrel that was installed was a shite job by the smith that did it. Does anyone have any experience with an Ed Brown drop in barrel? My smith has offered to order any drop in barrel for me at his cost. So, Ed Brown or not?

Here's what the great hilton yam had to say on barrels...

The factory barrels from Colt, Kimber, and Springfield (the one piece stainless units on the TRP grade guns) tend to shoot very well. A match fit barrel is analogous to "blueprinting" the engine on a race car – it maximizes your performance and enhances the feel of the pistol. Some stock barrels fit very loosely and can have a tendency to slop around during the firing cycle, producing a clunky feel as all the parts slap around. In addition to the 10-8 Performance 416 stainless match barrel (not currently available for retail sale), I like match barrels from Kart, Ed Brown, or Barsto.

Thx man. I was sick when I had my smith look at it for me last Friday. The "step" on the link had been completely removed to get the bar-sto to fit in the Kimber slide. I was extremely disappointed. Plus the barrel itself had not been fitted to the slide and was loose. My smith is a big fan of 10-8 components as well.

That's a shame there was probably nothing wrong with the factrory kimber one he replaced too... FWIW, I have briley, nowlin, and kart barrels in my 1911s, I can't tell the difference from one to the other but they are all gunsmith fit, not drop-in.
