Why Did Louie Succeed While Lucky Louie Failed?

I honestly thought Lucky Louie was funnier since it was so raw. I bet HBO is kicking themselves for not renewing his show.

He was full frontal in one episode... I still have nightmares about it.

I think Lucky Louie was a little ahead of its time...I think it was too darkly funny. The varying length vignettes, and stand up bits of Louie add a little levity to the cinstant awkwardness and darkness. Louie also looks at a lot more different things than just the grind that can be a family. Louis C.K.'s had time to hone his craft even further.

Lucky Louie was great. Couldn't believe it got cut, but then I remembered this is HBO who kills shows like Deadwood. I have a friend who was a regular in LL and he was really surprised it was cut too.

I doubt HBO really cares.

Louis CK is arguably one of the most famous and bankable comedians today and you don't think they care?
Posted on 5/25/13 at 6:22 pm to JabarkusRussell
CK was a lot bigger when Louie started.
Posted on 5/25/13 at 6:27 pm to saintsfan22
And he is that much bigger now.

the Jim Norton bit in the confession episode on God being a big slimy c-nt probably didnt help its case.

Jim Norton.

I don't think Jim Norton helps anything. Ever. But mostly it was just too raw and insistent without the right timing or subtlety.
I didn't even know this show existed until this week. Did you guys know his wife on the show is the voice of Bobby Hill? I would do the voice of Bobby Hill.

whoa I did not know that.
I always thought she was pretty damn cute but now I'll get visions of fat little Bobby in my head.

Is the network that brought us
Sopranos
Game of Thrones
Deadwood
Boardwalk Empire
Veep
Eastbound and Down
True Blood
Hard Knocks
Entourage
The Wire
Sex and the City
Oz
sweating bullets because they let Louis C.K. get away?
I'm sure they will live to get over it.

I loved Norton's speech about fireworks being God having an orgasm.

They didn't even let him get away--he just did a standup special for HBO about a month ago. I liked Lucky Louis, but Louis is clearly the superior show.

The acting was pretty uneven in LL. Louis and the wife were fine but the rest of the cast wasn't very good at times.
The turn the show took with the shrew harpy of a wife didn't help and it sort of came out of nowhere.
I liked lL but wasn't upset when it didn't return. Too uneven. Heck, I liked the Life & Times of Tim much more.

I discovered the great Nick Dipalio from LL. He was the super who talked about the crap that backed up.

One of these is not like the others, one of these does not belong.

Needs to replace Sex in the City with Curb.
