Am I wrong to think he'll be a Klay Thompson kind of player on offense? Despite his athleticism KCP takes a lot of jumpers and their offensive advanced stats aren't that far apart. This is from their last year of college:

Watched the draftexpress video on him last night after I saw someone talking about him on PR. If he can learn to just OCCASIONALLY drive to the hole and finish, he could be a 20 ppg scorer easily. And he has pretty good defensive potential with his quick hands. And he's a good rebounder. Could play some SF in my opinion, but SG is def his primary position.

I think 6 is too high for him, but if we trade down a few spots... Or if he has some great workouts, he may could rise up to 6.

I think the Klay comparison is pretty good.

You don't trade down, if you like the player then take him.

I'm a big fan of his game, I think he will be a good player for years. The only question I have is do we really need another shooting guard.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I meant where his "draft stock" is now that there will likely be presumed better players available at 6. But with good workouts he could impress the FO and if they like him at 6, I like him at 6.

Assuming you don't trade him, Gordon can play more minutes at PG. Monty said at the end of the year he wanted to run more plays through Gordon but the spacing wasn't there because of Vasquez and Aminu. KCP and a better SF will give Gordon the spacing to run the offense.

I'm not gonna lie. I knew very little about this kid as he's barely been mentioned in the discussion of top 5 picks leading to the draft.

However, watching his highlight reel, I would not be disappointed in the least if Monty/Dell were to grab him at 6. This kid
quote:

can shoot in a crowd
, has a quick release, a great release off the dribble, quickness, and the ability to get to the rim and finish.

I bolded that area because that quality was the one that stood out the most to me and is one of the biggest differences between college and pro ball. You have to get that shot up instantly in the pros. He even showed ability to jack up the shot in his non-natural shooting motion with some accuracy.

I know highlight reels only show the good, but I just saw a kid who's offensive game will translate in my opinion. Assuming the "Big 5" are off the board, he seems as decent a risk as any.

we have 30some odd days until the draft. maybe instead of starting a new thread on every player in the draft, we should just do one big thread on the top 30 and do one a day or so.

just a suggestion.

Agree with all except the ability to get to the rim and finish. Of course, my knowledge of him is limited to the draftexpress scouting video and that is what they listed as one of his weaknesses. He's a high flyer in the open court, but doesn't play above the rim when he drives through the defense. I think adding some muscle/strength and coaching him to play under control (he looked like he just threw his body in there sometimes anticipating a foul) could greatly improve this area of the game for him.

As you said we have 30 days. I think the more threads, the better, or this place will become a grave yard.

I have no problem with one thread per player, but one of the things I like about TD vs other sites is we do start so many threads. It's a lot easier to jump into a fresh 2 page thread rather than the 30 page, month old thread on all potential draft picks.

Klay Thompson is a nice comparison. I've heard Kerry Kittles before. (Side note: I saw Kittles play in high school at St.Aug versus my Owls. He destroyed us.)

Caldwell-Pope has the "it" factor for me. He's a natural scorer. Very smooth. I'm on the record saying he's the one player( besides possibly Burke ) that will be a solid contributor to his team quicker.

If Burke is gone at six, I'd take him.

I'd definitely prefer him over Bennett, Len, or Saric. Even over Noel to be honest, but just b/c I'm not high on him at all. We already have a long, lean shot blocker, but ours can play on the offensive end too.

I'd like KCP, McCollum, and Burke all about the same.

I love KCP's game and think he could fit in well. He's an exceptional rebounder for his size and is a good not great defender but could be great with his athleticism and basketball IQ. He can really fill it up behind the arc when he gets hot but could definitely use some work driving and finishing around the rim. A vast majority of the plays called for him were catch and shoot so I'd like to see him develop a pick and roll game or something else so he's not so 1 dimensional. I think he's worth #6 if Burke isn't available because he's not too big of a need. If only he were a couple inches taller...

Pope will be a steal of a scorer for whatever team grabs him.
