Then be more specific, i.e. "Who is the most insufferable jerk: Neil Young, Billy Bragg, or Jeff Tweedy?"

Would Wilco not be considered "these days"?

But Neil Young is a boss

Wait... what? If anyone is the hier to Woody Guthrie, it is Billy Bragg. All You Fascists Are Gonna Lose is what Woody Guthrie would've recorded had he been recording in the 80s instead of the 30s. No one gets as close to the spirit of Woody as Bragg. Not even Dylan.

Wilco made a nice backing band for Bragg, but he's the guy who makes the whole Mermaid Avenue sessions. I f'n love Billy Bragg. He's so good on these recordings, though serious points for Tweedy for doing Jolly Banker, probably my favorite Guthrie song.

If Mr. Socialist living in a 750K house is the spirit of Woody, OK.

I see BB as the Michael Moore of music

Neil Young is the greatest Canadian of all time

My favorite albums:
1. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
2. On the Beach
3. Rust Never Sleeps
4. After the Gold Rush
5. Tonight's the Night

Last year's Psychedelic Pill is actually pretty fricking awesome. DEEP JAMZ BRO

Top Songs

1. Cowgirl in the Sand (on the short list of my favorite songs of all time)
2. Down by the River
3. Old Man
4. Heart of Gold
5. The Needle and the Damage Done
6. Walk On
7. Cortez the Killer
8. Rockin' in the Free World
9. After the Gold Rush
10. Like a Hurricane

Neil's shows at Jazz Fest 09 and Voodoo 12 are some of the best I've seen

Eta: that top 10 was hard. Neil has so many other classics

Guthrie was also a well-off socialist who began his career literally singing songs on the streets for the money. Though I'm not sure why having a big house means you can't support socialism. England is a socialist nation and it has rich people. But that's a poli board discussion. However, Bragg's politics are pretty similar to Woody's.
