SNL has been much funnier in recent years than most people admit. People are always hating on the current cast saying the old casts were always better.
With that being said, I suspect next season will suffer like every first season after a major cast reshuffle but there are some talented people in the cast staying behind.

I would agree. Even the nights where the hosts were terrible the cast came through with atleast one memorable skit.
On the show where the host was awesome the entire show was golden. Timberlake, Melissa McCarthy, Applegate, Bruno Mars and Anne Hathaway did outstanding job as hosts and the show reflected it.

It's funny how it's been like this for 30+ years and I'm sure it will be like this ten years from now.

It has been hip to bash on Saturday Night Live for years now talking about how "it's not what it used to be" and "It's not funny anymore".
Most of the people that say this don't even watch it anymore.

well they don't watch it because it's not what it used to be.
I do like the Timberlake episodes and Sudekis,Hader, and Samberg are funny. Other than that its just meh.

i really thought the last episode was the best of the season, TBH. they didn't rely solely on cameos or all rehashed skits. it was very well done.
this season was one of the best in recent memory, possibly since will ferrell left. but the past few seasons have gotten progressively better.

Im not trying to be hip.
You're right I dont watch this anymore. The few shows I've seen in recent years, I didn't think it was that funny. Some skits were good and some were bad/awkward.

This has always been the case for SNL. People also remember the great skits and the truly bad ones but always forget the mediocre ones make up most of the skits past Weekend update. No matter how good the cast is every skit doesn't always work.
I am excited about next season. Cicily Strong became a star this year and Vanessa Bayer, Bobby Moynihan, Taran Killam, and Keenan Thompson have been strong leads for years.
Weekend update will be done by John Mulaney who takes over as head writer now that Meyers is leaving. He co-created with Stephon with Hader so I am sure he will be fine.
All SNL needs is a couple more strong leads to develop and it wont miss a beat.
