Why no co-op? I despise the lack of co-op offerings on console. I want to play co-op.

They mentioned something about adding a second player taking away from the Joel-Ellie reliant relationship. The AI is tuned to such a fine degree that putting in a real person would dumb it down.
They may do some form of multi but co-op has never been spoken of.
