Two years ago we were bitching about Fredi's overuse of EOF and Venters. Where are they right now exactly?

This stuff matters and far smarter baseball minds than me have commented and made articles about Fredi's terrible bullpen management skills during his career.

Starting pitchers that continually pitch over 110 pitches many times a year have a tendency to have arm issues, and relief pitchers that get overused tend to have the same problem. So when it happens we are going to bitch about it.

Can you prove that the workload was the reason they had TJ surgery? Also, if I recall correctly we had a plethora of 1-3 run games. I don't blame Fredi for playing his best players.

Kind of hard to balance that huh? ITs baseball man. Eevryone's gonna have injuries here or there. Whats more important, winning the game or protecting arms? How did you feel about Washington's handling of Strasburg? I didn't like it.

My point in calling out your bitching is that fredi gets criticized for having a 6-man bullpen, and then when he tries to let his starter go deeper he still gets bitched about. it is stupid really.

Yeah, not too worried about him long term, he's smacking the ball nicely.

I didn't like their handling of Strasburg because if they were planning on doing that they should have started his season later. Protecting his arm was a wise move, their implementation of it was retarded.

If it's a player that you plan on keeping around, protecting the arms is far more important than a win here or there. Particularly for a player like Strasburg that the Nats will be building around.

Prove it wasn't. Good grief what a circular argument.

And no it's not hard to balance it, you just use the other freaking guys in your bullpen.

Lolwut? Fredi sends Kimbrel out in a 3 run game with the 789 batters up. He was using Venters in 4 run games a couple of years ago. He never uses some guys unless its a blowout.

Clearly this is exactly what I was saying, good call. You can't pitch the same pitchers game in and game out without them either getting worn down (which happened in 2011 with our bullpen falling apart down the stretch), or getting injured. So yay, we picked up one win, maybe two in the first half of 2011, and now our bullpen is screwed in 2013 and sucked down the stretch in 2011. You have to have balance, which Fredi did an excellent job with in 2012 but has sucked doing otherwise.

Anyway, great sweep, let's keep it rolling versus the Mets.

I think he's done well this year, but to each his own.

the most important thing is this though

great sweep

The idea of a save situation is very dumb. Kimbrel should be pitching in high leverage situations only, regardless of "save situations", inning, etc.

That said, it's really unfair to expect a manager like Fredi to use Kimbrel correctly when even the most progressive managers like Maddon often times misuse closers.

Well, screwed is hyperbole of course, but we are missing 2 of our top 3 relievers for the season.

While that may be true, Kimbrel is gonna make a lot of money b/c of these saves. He would probably still get paid regardless, but you get the point. Kimbrel wants those saves too.

I think once Martinez gets back this 6 man pen will be a lot more viable.

Yeah, I'm wondering when a manager will finally figure this out.
