Well put. To this day, Bob is the best thing i've ever seen on TV.

It may very well be the best show or movie I've seen. The crazy thing is: it's one of the most rewatchable shows I can think of.

Every time they have a BoB marathon on Spike or History, I'm watching it.

And he was real. Dude is the definition of a fricking boss. He might have been certifiable, but he was awesome.

quote:

Winters assessed Speirs as being one of the finest combat officers in the battalion. He wrote in his memoirs that Speirs had worked hard to earn a reputation as a killer and had often killed for shock value.[8] Winters stated that Speirs was alleged on one occasion to have killed six German prisoners of war and that the battalion leadership must have been aware of the allegations, but chose to ignore the charges because of the pressing need to retain qualified combat leaders. Winters concluded that in today's army, Speirs would have been court-martialed and charged with atrocities, but officers like Speirs were too valuable because they were not afraid to engage the enemy.

Sounds borderline sociopathic.

BoB was incredible, so was Generation Kill. However, I was very meh on the Pacific. Thought it was too much touchy feely and not enough actual fighting/history

Makes when they find the concentration camp even more intense knowing what they had all been thru and what they were fighting for

My absolute favorite mini-series. I remember watching this in high school and being absolutely mesmerized. I love the interviews before the episode starts.

by far my favorite dialouge of the series

spears: you want to ask me dont you?

lipton: ask you what, sir?

spears: you want to know if the stories about me are true....you ever notice with stories like that, everyone says they heard it from someone who was there. and then when you ask that person, they say they heard it from someone who was there. its nothing new really. i bet if you went back 2000 years youd hear a couple centurions standing around yacking about how tertius lopped off the heads of some carthaginian prisoners

lipton: maybe they kept talking about it because they never heard tertius deny it

spears: maybe thats because tertius knew there was some value to the men thinking he was the meanest, toughest, son of a bitch in the whole legion

Be careful showing it to a US History class full of teenagers. Episode 9 will sneak up on you.

Not that I'm speaking from experience.

have the dvd set still in the plastic. Haven't opened it and I got it for xmas

you ought to give it a shot. i was leery at first but it ended up entrancing me. i watched the whole series in like a week right before finals

ETA: westcoastag, ahhh nice. if i picked of BoB when they were all out like i did GK then i probably would have done the same thing

and Spears was unreal. that scene where he runs through the town, good god. and i love the scene in the chapel after with lipton where he talks about tersius (sp?)

You really ought to. GK is the most accurate portrayal of the modern military. BoB was better but GK is awesome too.

First of all, I don't want the real guy to die. Second of all I knew he didn't. Thirdly, you suck.
