Holy hell, does this show get better? If so, how? Because Season 1 was amazing.

Season four beats the shite out of any other season. Lithgow was awesome.

Been watching since season 4 aired. Major gripe is that sometimes the show will spend a whole season developing a side story for a major character, then completely ignore it as if it didn't happen at all in the following season. At it's peak it was one of the best shows around then it started to get predictable and below average (for premium channels standards). That said it has gotten better. I'd rank the seasons as follows.
2 (should have saved this one to end the series IMO, but we still have one final season left to see if they can close it any better)

I don't want to respond to anyone in particular, but do any of the responses contain spoilers? It looked like some of the seasons were discussed at at least some length.

4 is the peak. Easily the best season. Downhill from there but only because 4 was so good.

The 1st 3-4 seasons are pretty kick arse then it gets unbelievable.

I loved 1 & most of 2.
Season 3 was meh.
Season 4 was great.
5 was good IMO
6 was kinda meh
7 started a bit slow but finished well.

I'll agree with what most have already said. 1,2, and 4 are phenomenal, and 4 is flat out incredible. It's worth watching the series for those seasons alone.
I'm sort of the outcast when it comes to 3. Most people think it stunk, but I actually liked it. You'll notice that most seasons have one main storyline as it relates to Dexter's adversary. I was very intrigued by season 3's story, I'm not sure why most don't like it. Maybe bc it had to follow the greatness of 1 and 2.
At any rate, 5 took a major downturn and kinda sucked. 6 had great potential, but was pretty lackluster and the execution was poor. 7 started to right the ship and get back on track, although it wasn't nearly as good as 1,2,4.
so basically, keep watching. You'll like it.
