Except that would ruin the show. The show itself was actually good and so didn't need gratuitous (and uncreative) scenes and language to make people want to watch.

For an example of what could have been a great show but was ruined by pay cable, see homeland.

Thanks for not calling me stupid. I guess I just lean a little more to crime dramas like Breaking Bad or completely fantasy stuff like GoT and Walking Dead.

I find Lost to be something in between that just doesn't grab me.

LOST should be something that is very instantly engaging. It should take approximately 5 minutes for you to be sure that you'll finish the series. If you're not jizzing your pants over the Pilot or Walkabout, then it's probably not for you.

actually if i had won the lottery last week, one of the things i was gonna do is remake Lost unedited as if it was on HBO.

Gotta disagree here. There are probably thousands of shows that either have a stellar intro and end up sucking, or drag for a while before getting good. 5 minutes or even the first episode is in no way a great indicator.

or Walkabout

now this I agree with. Not only is 4 episodes a pretty good gauge of the show and enough to figure out if you want to strap in for the long haul or not..after the big scene in walkabout was the first time in the show I said "holy shite" and knew I was hooked.

Yeah, my point is it should click in one of those 2 moments. Pilot just has a super "holy shite" moment after "holy shite" moment. Walkabout is a bit more subtle and rooted in character, with one of TV's all time best twists at the end of it.
