One would think that something about this would've been mentioned in trial.
FRE Rule 609 says that one's thinking would be wrong.
You can't bring up prior bad acts in a criminal trial, unless the defendant takes the stand and even then it's not automatic.

I think you missed the point.
Point being, Cecil's defense would have made mention of ongoing affairs. It could have been potentially to his benefit to have made this known if true.
