(And Lebron was AWOL for half the Finals, but that's another issue entirely.)
Dunno why it must be repeated but the whole reason LeBron was "AWOL" was b/c Dallas purposely froze him out and funneled the ball to DWade b/c they figured he couldn't carry Miami to the series win.

Karl is a GREAT reg season Coach, just fails in the playoffs.........
The type of basketbal that he preaches has fundamental flaws that will always lead his teams to first round exits (unless Nuggets are facing the Rockets).
He has failed to develop most of his young players. His rotations throughout the year were awful.
Stone/JHam/Fournier were out of his plans, for no serious reason.
Half court offense, a major issue last year, was still non-existent. There were no pick n rolls, no give n go's, no good screens by the bigs, not enough 3 pointers

Dallas did the same thing that Chicago does against Miami to this day.
They constantly switch out of man and zone looks, and sometimes man half the floor with a zone on the other half.
Carlisle does deserve some credit for that, but Thibs and Rivers did the same thing to Lebron in 2010 when Boston had their last run to the Finals.

I'm just saying that LeBron didn't vanish like the lazy arse media likes to say. Dallas flat out took him out of the series. There is a huge difference between a player getting schemed out of a game vs not playing their hardest and shrinking in the moment. But you can't explain that in a two second soundbite on one of their dumb arse debate shows so all we get is garbage like "How bad did player X choke and why does he have no heart?"

The fact that I have to explain this to you shows me your inept NBA knowledge. Carry on.

I'd put him up there with George Karl, Erik Spolestra, and Doc Rivers...with Phil Jackson being in a class of his own.
When it comes to Pop...Phil Jackson is not "in a class of his own". He is right there with him.

Are there seriously people who think Spoelstra is as good as Popovich?

He has probably the oldest team in the league, what more can he coach his players?
This is false. The Spurs aren't even one of te top 5 oldest

I'd take Pop over every coach of the last 15 years.

He will be until he retires, Phil Jackson decides to coach again, or they dig up Red Aurbauch.

I think Pop gets more out of his players than any other coach could. That's what makes him the best in my mind.

I'm nowhere near old enough to form an opinion on Auerbach, but I would take Pop over Phil.

Pop is one of the best the game has ever seen. His system is an absolute pleasure to watch and he seems to always make the right adjustment.
George Karl is a great coach. He takes mediocre talent and does well with them every year. Karl is just not on Pops level.
Pop is comparable to Jackson. Pop has had Timmy D, Manu, and Parker while Jackson had MJ, Scotty, Shaq, and Kobe. Jackson was better at handling egos but Pop is better at X's and O's. People vastly over rate how complicated the triangle is and thinks its a magic offense. It's not. It's an offense that is really effective at getting the ball to great scorers in high percentage positions on the floor.

Red was a damn good coach, but he had more talent on the floor than anyone else. He definitely got the most out of them as evidenced by the banners in the Garden.

How is this thread so many pages? Is there really a debate? Surely everyone's just checking in to say yes

It's more of a debate on the rankings below Pop.
