Yeah, that was pretty WTF. Could be cool though I guess, as it seemed like they were implying Hurt as the doctor would go into some different directions. They need to shake things up a bit. I dig Clara as a companion, but this season has been pretty weaksauce overall.

I started watching Orphan Black because it was on after Dr Who, and these past few weeks I've only been watching Dr Who mostly because it's on before orphan Black.

I wonder which incarnation he is supposed to be--is he the "next" Doctor or a future version?

I like Clara but this season has been a little boring hasn't it? Amy Pond had such great chemistry with this Doctor, poor Clara can't compete.

anybody but Smith at this point. He just doesn't come off as The Doctor to me.

I actually like Clara tremendously better than Amy Pond. Pond was no doubt hot but she annoyed the piss out of me all around. Darvill was really the only saving grace with Pond.

I'd say the chemistry is fine between her and Smith I think, the writing on the show has just gotten abysmal. I expected great things from Moffat, but he just seems to have gotten stuck in a rut with recycling the same ideas and situations over and over. It's gotten boring as hell. Even this finale was only borderline interesting and fairly lame.

And the Moffat needs to stuff the sonic screwdriver up his arse and let us never see it again.

Best guess on Hurt is he is Doctor 8.5, and possibly the Doctor involved with the Time War, and the subsequent destruction of Gallifrey.

Other possibilities include being "Doctor Zero" (before the First) or the Valeyard (who did get a mention tonight), but I think both of those are much less likely.

I'm pretty bored with "present" Clara as well (haven't watched tonight's yet FWIW). I'm a huge lover of all things Pond. Easily my favorite companion of the reboot. Also like Donna Noble more than most people do... She was pretty unique and damn funny at times.

Tate was much better on Doctor Who than she ever was on The Office.

SPOILERS:

No more "spoilers"... Goodbye, sweetie.

True - She had already completely run her course, but I thought her whole story arc and how she fit in with the Ponds was amazing.

So is Clara going to be back when things resume?

Pretty sure she will be.

Not sure I liked the River Song nonsense in that one. Not like much of that episode made sense but her being dead but able to be in contact through dreams while dead....

headache.

Well the place they were meeting was called "the desktop" and it was constructed of (mostly Vastra's) memories. Perhaps it was somehow linked to/powered by the mainframe in the library. That's what I was thinking, anyways.

I hate Moffat because in his first episode as the show runner, he destroyed the SS which made me so happy only to have the tardis give the doctor a new SS at the end of the episode.

Since then it has been a terrible craptastic crutch. Hate it.

Old who it was just a freaking screw driver. Now it is a constant never ending deus ex machina of lazy arse writing.

I'm not going to allow myself to think it is the end of River Song. We'll see her again.

Yep, the last two seasons in particular have been beyond lazy writing, it's gotten pathetic. Which just blows my mind because the writing on Sherlock is so amazing (as well as all of Moffat's Who episodes before he became show runner).

I was somewhat disappointed by the second half of this season, but the finale was really good. They actually explained things in ways that made sense. The Great Intelligence was a good "big bad". There was just enough fan wankery -- I loved the clips of the old Doctors. And Clara telling William Hartnell what TARDIS to steal was great. The three things I wanted out the 50th Anniversary episode were clips of the old Doctors, David Tennant coming back to interact with Matt Smith and a heavyweight actor playing a future version of the Doctor. Looks like I'll get all these things.

I still have some issues with Moffat's time in charge of the show -- I think he's much better at writing two episodes a year instead of guiding the series. But at least the finale wasnt a Timey-wimey mess

Ok, I think what John Hurt did was much worse than ending the Time War. Because the Doctor has always fessed up to ending the war, wiping out all the Time Lords and carrying a ton of guilt about it. This has to be something huge in his past that he divorced himself from entirely and just shut off.

Well, can't get much worse than destroying your entire race. Not to mention he destroyed his race and failed at killing all the Daleks since they have showed up 408 times even though they were allegedly gone. Then Crazy Tenant Clone also destroyed all of the Daleks in time and space and yet the showed up again.

Along with lazy writing,I would toss financial concerns being a cause for repeated villains ad nauseaum.

Maybe his huge secret is that not only did he end the Time War but he started it, too.
