Read an article now that 153 out of 156 nations will sign and it will go into effect June 3 but Obama needs 67 votes for it in the senate for it to pass.

My phone will not link you will have to Google. Sorry.

Thanks.

Anyone who votes yes needs their names to be known and voted out next term.

This thing is blown way out of proportion. First off, the 3 countries that are opposed to it are Syria, Iran, and North Korea. That's not a group I really want to be a part of. Second, there's a provision that guarantees each nation the power to control arms in their own nations by their own laws. Third, the UN has no power to make us do shite. The UN denied our resolution to go to war with Iraq. That worked just like they hoped right?

Stay focused on what legislation our lawmakers propose that will actually effect us. This UN treaty won't have an impact on anyone on his board. Period.

Its a backdoor to circumvent the 2nd admen. I don't trust Obama anything he can do to disarm the citizens ala Hitler he will do.

But true like you said it still has to pass congress for it to be approved for the US.

It's aim is to track the international trade of weapons between nations. I'm skeptical it would even be successful at that, but it's not a terrible goal. By tracking the international flow of arms they hope to make it easier to find out who is selling arms to terrorist groups, militant sects in countries involved in civil war, organized crime groups, etc.

I've heard the argument about circumventing the 2nd amendment and I just don't buy it. I think it was just another talking point to rile everyone up during the scare. There are plenty of things for us to be concerned about without wasting time on this treaty.

I'm not overly concerned about anything. Just curious and too lazy to look it up myself

A majority of senators have already made clear their opposition to ratifying the ATT. On March 23, 53 senators endorsed an amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2014, "establish[ing] a deficit neutral fund" to oppose United States entrance into the treaty. Additionally, Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kans.), along with 32 cosponsors, has put forth a concurrent resolution expressing the Senate's opposition to the ATT, as it "fails to expressly recognize the fundamental, individual right to keep and to bear arms and the individual right of personal self-defense... and thus risks infringing on freedoms protected by the Second Amendment."

Unfortunately, once a treaty has been signed, it normally remains available for the Senate to ratify in perpetuity, unless a later president withdraws from it. This means that American gun owners must remain vigilant in ensuring this treaty is never ratified. The NRA will continue to keep gun owners up to date on any movement toward ratification, and will work with our allies in the Senate to ensure the treaty remains unratified.

Not sure which amuses me more, the fact that Mung doesn't know how to post :omg: or the fact that Josey was posting it in the thread within a minute of Mung asking for it.

Well they couldn't even get 60 for background checks so this may not pass anyways.

The gun treaty is a bad idea...those that see otherwise are too blind to see what can become of this...
