Not even close to similar. That's like saying chimps and humans are the same. And I thought Cavs were a type of settler, not Indian.

So a wolf and husky are both dogs and that's too close but a pelican and a hawk are just miles apart despite both being birds?

A cavalier is a kind of fighter, sometimes with a gentlemanly connotation. Ever notice the swords in the logo?

I'm not really sure who brought up people from India. Maybe you are thinking of the new owner of the Kings who used to own the Warriors?

Pelicans have huge beaks. Hawks have tiny ones. I could see if you compared eagles to hawks but not pelicans.

Look pretty similar to me.

And Warriors were named after Native Americans. Not sure if a joke.

So logos from same team being similar makes two real life dogs similar, but real life beak size makes teams different? Ok, so you updated the post with a team that is not the toronto huskies and that logo means . . . all logos for huskies look the same?

I really can't follow the logic.

Besides, if you are going off the logo, that was exactly the problem management had when the Raptors came into existence. If they want to rebrand now, they clearly will overcome that obstacle.

C'mon, man. You're just making stuff up, and ignoring the rest of the examples in the bag. None are the same, many are related, blah blah blah, believe what you want, be a contrarian becuase someone somewhere will think you are smart, etc.

About the Warriors thing you added. So let's assume the Warriors were named after fighting sects of various Native American tribes. The fighting aspect they chose to emphasize with the name is completely overridden by the aspect they chose to not put in the spotlight? And that means one group of fighters is sooooo different from another that it's ok, much like beak size, but being completely different dogs with different dispositions and ways of life . . . they're just like twins . . . and this is the basis for rebranding?

You clearly have not been paying attention for several years.

frick Utah

Eh, at this point I think it's good we're starting over. When a franchise has had as much success as Utah has it's hard to strip them of that namesake (even when they obviously don't deserve it).

Neither us nor Charlotte did enough with Hornets to claim ownership of it.

Now we got Pelicans, let's do work and lock that shite down for good !

You cannot honestly say these two animals look alike like a huskie and a wolf do.

No but these do

And timber wolf

Husky

the Timberwolves logo actually resembles a husky more. So that's a mistake on their part. If a team wants to be the huskies, they would have the more appropriate logo of the two.

You are blindly defending a point about name choice on the basis of things that have little to do with it. Continue if you choose, but at some point you'll realize that while there may be a certain logic to what you are saying, there are many reasons for said rebrand that you are ignoring.

Doesn't really matter. Huskies doesn't sound like wolves which is all that matters.

Cherries are delicious. Also Voodoo was the better name.

Delicious is too far.

Voodoo was a much better name. Too `scary' or offensive to `some'.

Blame idiots, or the fear of idiots and how they spend their money.

It's funny because some people didn't like Saints because it's blasphemous to name a team that. But then they don't like Voodoo because... well I guess that's blasphemous, too!

I will admit I was a bit dubious of the Pelicans name when I heard it, especially compared to some of the alternatives. But the more I thought about it, the more I liked it (especially compared to some of the stinkers that other NBA teams have). And then when I saw the logos I was completely sold. Excellent work on those logos IMO.

And you know what, I'll consider Charlotte Hornets top ten names and top ten logos as well.
