While awful, I still have feelings of nostalgia for this. Outside of a few scenes, it has nothing to do with the game. That said, Haskins was a perfect Mario.

It's ok, since it is a gloriously awful movie. It's not offensive, but just so, so stupid. Mario has never been known for its story (closest they've ever gotten to a good one is Super Mario RPG) to where it doesn't degrade the franchise in the slightest.

While this film is by no means great or even that good. I feel like it catches more heat then it should. It should. I think the premise of the film is pretty original for the Super Mario franchise. The idea that the dinosaurs were given the shite end of the stick by being stuck in some punk world was cool I thought. At least it provided some sort of reason behind what Koopa was fighting for, the game doesn't do that.

Personally I think the Princess and Bowser are in cohoots with one another and are in love. The first kidnap was for legit, but since then Peach has developed Stockholm syndrome and fell in love with Bowser. The princess can't marry the Koopa King, Mostly because he's a giant monstrous turtle and no one is going to put up with that. So they stage kidnappings together to get a few minutes alone before Mario comes to rescue her. She's got to keep up her appearance, and Bowser knows this. All he has to do is kill Mario and/or Luigi and he'll get Peach theoretically for good. The great untold love story of video gaming, and making Mario gamings biggest cockblock.

I did like the things that had to do with the game: Fungus (mushrooms), B-Bombs, Yoshi, the green and red outfits, boots that made them jump, the princess, etc.

What frick do dinosaurs have to do with Super Mario Bros? The only dinosaur in the game is Yoshi and he was a good guy. The Goombas were half an inch tall they weren't dinosaurs.
