Is there any way to get shows off of a DVR?

I'm switching to DirecTV and was curious if there's any way to get shows off of my Cox DVR?
Sucks the Office Finale just aired and I'm going to lose it already

You can download off some DVRs to an external hard drive, but it is unlikely it would play on your new DirecTV DVR as the software is different.
I had the same dilemma when I switched from Dish to DirecTV.
The external hard drive use is mostly for extra storage space.
eta: However, you can always upload the episode again with your new DVR. Go to Menu, Search ...

Yeah, I wouldn't need it on the new DVR, sorry I didn't specify. I would have just like to have it at least on my hard drive for computer.
