Buh Bye?

Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) decision to rid Windows 8 of the Microsoft Points currency system appears to be just a part of the company's planned updates. The Xbox could soon be rid of the mock currency as well, according to The Verge.

I say good riddance. They sucked anyway.

At least make it to where you can buy the exact amount of points the DLC is worth.

(unless that has changed)

I wonder if they will compensate people for unused points. I don't have many but I know some people stock up during sales.

We'd probably see a USD exchange for any points, it's not like they'd wipe the slate clean.

I don't see how they couldn't just convert it and leave that on your account.

This is a slam to bitcoin. Even Microsoft sees the value in just using the dollar. I understand the initial reasoning behind it. Kids were playing XBOX and they wanted them to not feel like they were spending actual money. So let's buy points and spend points instead of money. It's day has passed.

Like it's been stated already, the really annoying thing about the practice was that they never matched cost of games with point packages. I'd constantly end up with 100 or 150 points on my account that I couldn't do anything with unless I bought more points to put towards a game or DLC.

Yes. We already have a type of money. It's called money.

ETA: It is interesting that as proprietary as Apple has been historically, they never went the points route.
