mlbbowman: Still no official word regarding Venters. But the expectation is he will undergo his second Tommy John surgery (first in '05) this afternoon
Couldn't see this coming.

Yea definately not surprising.
Do yall think Fredi is spending the off day coming up with as many different lineup combinations as possible to test out over the next few weeks?

Damn. What are we doing to our pitchers these days? I am starting to lose count of the number of guys who have had to have TJ in the last few years.
After being relatively injury free on the mound in the 90s, this just seems like a lot. Do we have that many more guys who throw that much harder or is there a difference between Mazzone and McDowell's coaching that impacts it?

Venters was waaaaaaay overused those 2 years.

No doubt. Wish we could have waited to overuse him in 12 and 13.

Yea didn't he pitch about 90 innings each year?

It's like an LSAT question
Freddi has to choose a lineup between 13 players: BJ, Chris, Freeman, Gattis, Heyward, Justin, McCann, Pena, Reed, Schafer, Simmons, Uggla and a Pitcher. Only 9 batters are in the lineup. Each batter bats consecutively and one at a time. The following conditions apply:
-If McCann is in the lineup, Gattis is not.
-If Heyward is in the lineup, Schafer is not.
-The pitcher must bat in the ninth batting position
Question 1: Given the set conditions, how many different batting orders could be assigned?

frick the LSAT
And the pitcher doesn't ALWAYS have to bat 9th for Fredi

He's done.
The chances of coming back after a second tommy john surgery are slim.

This really sucks. Hate it for Venters.

Meh, not really they are so good at that stuff now it's not like it used to be. Now he may not be the same type of pitcher when he comes back but he can still be successful
Every case is different but I've lost count of how many times they have operated on Chris Carpenter's arm/shoulder
