Apparently, Neil Gaiman expects the show to premiere this year if he can get the pilot's script done soon.

I didn't realize it was so close to being done since, you know, it doesn't even have a damn script yet, nor does it appear to have a cast. Of course, this was 2 months ago... Maybe things happen quickly in HBO's world.

On March 1st, Neil Gaiman spoke at the opening ceremony for this year’s Cambridge International Student Film Festival about his upcoming film and television work.
The Book Smugglers were there, tweeting out the highlights, and Neil took control of the Festival's own Twitter account before that, giving out revelations on how HBO will break up American Gods and the work that goes into his Doctor Who scripts.
On American Gods, forthcoming as an HBO TV series: The premiere episode of American Gods will be a lot like the opening chapters of the book, but will also contain new elements and details. The first two seasons of the show will consist of the book.
By then Gaiman hopes to have the American Gods sequel novel written and headed for release. American Gods will debut this year if Gaiman can get the pilot script done in time to HBO's satisfaction.

I had no idea this was being considered. I enjoyed the book and HBO should be able to make something decent with it.

What's this all about?
I want to know so I can read the book and be on the right side of the M/TV Board split.

Man, I really liked this book. I think HBO would do a great job with this.

Yeah, there was a thread on it some time ago and it got me excited. American Gods is one of my favorite books, and since Neil Gaiman is intimately involved in the creation of the show, that makes me all the more excited for it.

Here's the summary on Amazon:
quote:
Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she's been killed in a terrible accident. Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, a strange man in the seat next to him introduces himself. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible. He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever he the same...
Here's the summary from Neil's website:
quote:
Released from prison, Shadow finds his world turned upside down. His wife has been killed; a mysterious stranger offers him a job. But Mr. Wednesday, who knows more about Shadow than is possible, warns that a storm is coming -- a battle for the very soul of America . . . and they are in its direct path.
One of the most talked-about books of the new millennium, American Gods is a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth and across an American landscape at once eerily familiar and utterly alien. It is, quite simply, a contemporary masterpiece.

First book of his I ever read. It was fantastic. Oddly enough, it was based on a TV show he had done for the BBC or something in Britain. The TV show came first which is kind of backwards.
But yes, I've read it. It's probably his most accessible adult novel, unless you count Stardust as adult.

Nothing I posted contains spoilers, bro.
Everything I posted you could basically get from the dust jacket of the book.
Calm down.

Take it to the book readers thread.

Damn book nerds just have to show how much they know and can't wait to jump into the nonreaders thread even after we've repeatedly asked them to stay out.

I'm debating completely freaking out to play along with the joke or just letting the two of you have your fun. I think people will flip out at me flipping out on you, so I think I'll just stay out of it for now.

I would hope everyone would get this joke by now given how widely it has infested the board.

I just wonder how many seasons they can get out of the one book that is out there and possibly a second. Considering game of thrones is basically a book per season.
ETA: I picture this series having a sopranos meets heroes kind of feel.

By then, Gaiman hopes to have finished the sequel novel. The show is slated for 6 seasons. So, maybe one book per 2 seasons and there will be a second sequel in the works, making American Gods into a trilogy.

That would rock. American gods was nothing like i thought going into that novel. Had a really believable feel to go along with the mythology. There should be some great characters on screen.
