About to buy one of them. Pros/cons?

I assume both can do Netflix/Amazon Prime/HBOGO?

The Roku is only $30 cheaper so money doesn't really matter.

I don't have a Mac. But I do have an ipad and iphone.

I have heard HBOGo doesn't work with roku if you have directv. Does it work with appletv? Or can I just stream HBOGo from my ipad to the appletv?

I have no idea about Roku, but AppleTV doesn't have a native app for HBOGo yet. You can stream it via Airplay from your iPad, which works for me. I know they are working on an HBOGo app for AppleTV, but I have no idea when it will be out.

Nope...I don't use Amazon Prime, so I can't say whether you can stream it via AirPlay on not.

Not only can you AirPlay HBO go but you can still use your device to do anything except make a call or watch a video without disrupting the stream

Apple TV. The cross use between Apple devices and to your Apple TV is virtually seemless. Amazing how easily it works

google says different. you can airplay from a browser on a mac but i don't have a mac.

you cannot airplay the HBOGo app from ipad, it only streams audio, same story for amazonprime app.

used to be the case but they're about to put HBO go on ATV so they just went ahead an enabled AirPlay and as someone pointed out, the devices interact seemlessly.

I have the Roku 3 and love it. I have a bunch of my rips on my desktop in my bedroom and use a plex server and the plex app on my roku in my living room to watch all of them. I also use netflix, pandora, amazon and huluplus.

Roku does have HBO go as a native channel and loads of others. you can go to roku.com and look at all the channels you can put on your device before you buy one and remember, a lot of them don't have full shows, just clips. I installed the syfy one thinking I would watch some old stuff on it and it is mostly just clips.

You won't find a device that does it all,
Apple is treating Apple TV more seriously. My favorite product, and you can rent and stream any movie on iTunes...love my apple tv

I don't think amazon will, it might but it won't be long until apple addresses it.
