Moving screens and traveling in NBA

These guys are the best basketball players in the world, but don't have to follow the rules of the game. It makes each game questionable IMO. Does anyone else here get frustrated watching these guys?

Not really. It's called pretty evenly for all teams. It makes the game a little more entertaining too.

You can't be serious. The only reason half of this Spurs team gets open is because Duncan is a superstar and gets away with murder.

This is where I point out that the rule regarding traveling is different in the NBA than any other league. It was officially changed in 2009 after it had been unofficially changed years before.
Moving screens frustrate me to no end. I don't mind a little bit extra on the screen, but sometimes it's pretty egregious. Noah had a screen tonight where he turned and backed up into the defender near the 3pt line. It's literally impossible to guard Nate Robinson if you're going to allow that kind of movement on a screen. KG is the worst though. They let him push people coming off the screen.

That's what I'm talking about. It takes away from the game completely and I can see how it changes the game dramatically. One superstar gets away with it at home, then the opposing star gets treated like a rookie at training camp. Trash

Warriors have gotten away with some moving screens.

Agreed. It takes away from the game.

They called a travel on Melo against the Celtics.

Can we get a "NFL gets away with holding more than NCAA does?" Thread during football season. How about strike zone in MLB. These guys are superstars. They get 2.5 steps.

Have you ever seen Steph Curry dribble? Everytime he dribbles he palms the ball. That never gets called.

Diaw is the worst....when he plays
It's like an NFL game out there. Most don't even bother to screen anymore, they just try and grab you like they're running a toss sweep

They really don't travel as much as you think.
Let the players play, it's entertainment.

If I subscribed to this thought, I'd give a shite about the all star game. But that's awful to watch.

They get a full 2 steps which an above poster stated. That translates to 2.5 steps. Just because they gather and pick up their dribble just inside the 3 pt line doesn't mean they are traveling.
Comparing the entertainment factor to the all star game is silly. The defense is slightly different.

The NBA calls games in a way that favors the offense, and I'm perfectly fine with that. It does make games more entertaining (not in a Harlem Globetrotters way, but in a "that's good basketball" way). It's certainly better than watching college basketball, where they basically let the defense play football.

quote:The rule is enforced where they get a step while gathering the ball, then two full steps after the gather step. The rule is not the same as high school, college, or FIBA. And I'm in full agreement, if it's close and the referee isn't positive a travel has occurred they should hold their whistle.

This year they have cracked down on players sliding/hopping their pivot foot off the initial step though, which is a travel no fan on TV could possible see.

I think moving screens is a bigger problem than traveling.
