I currently work in a supply chain role for one of the major oil services companies. I have a friend in another state that sells for them and mentioned to me they are looking to do more business here in Texas and passed my name along to their people here. I like the idea of being able to make bigger commissions the better I do. I know it's more risky than what I am currently doing but I am going to meet with them and hear what they have to say. I have no pressure to take the job as I am not in need or anything like that and generally enjoy what I do now.

Ok, if your friend recommends and you want that risk then it might be for you.
The main hurdle is you are the one man band. Your competition will have local stock, inside sales people, outside sales, management team and warehouse/delivery/vendor managed inventory rep.
You will be all of those things with Lawson. Also more people are consolidating vendors where they can, which explains growth with the big 3 the last few years.
