Malcolm survived the first book but is badly injured and has a long road to recovery. Uses a cane a lot. He's one of the main characters in book 2.
Malcolm actually dies in Jurassic Park. In the epilogue it states, "They did not even permit the burial of Hammond or Ian Malcolm." (Paperback p. 398)

Crichton was pushed into writing The Lost World and, as many people have already stated, you can tell. The writing is definitely different. Its not as good.

I'm a huge Crichton fan and I wish they would do an adaptation of one of his books and stay true to the material. Jurassic Park is a great movie, but it pales in comparison to the book.

I know, I know, the book is never as good as the movie, but JP was so much darker and grittier than the movie. I wish Spielberg would've gone that route.

It saddens me how they never seem to want to stay faithful to his stories.

Timeline (probably my all-time favorite of his books) - shite movie.

EDIT - Don't know why I put Sum of All Fears. Crichton wrote State of Fear.

No, Scruffy does not. He has the same feelings about JP3 as he does for the Star Wars prequels.

I read the first one once so I don't remember a lot about the end. I really did love book two, regardless. 3 times.

But he survives in the movie, which is all that matters (for sequels).

Apparently. Scruffy not impressed.

JP3 didn't bother me all that much because I thought the first two were marginal crap to begin with. JP was so much better as a kid. As an adult, it had so much more potential.
