Because they put actual effort into their releases.

It's a lot easier to give away something that someone else created.

I prefer when bands don't release singles or anything.

Take Jimmy Page's route, release an album.

Rap is a genre, along with current pop, that doesn't rely on the album. It is just a mix of singles.

A record is a journey with stops along the way, or at least that's what I think it should be.

I believe in the album also. I'm a big fan of concept albums.

No, they mumble rhyming words that often do not make sense in the context of the english language. These rhymes are typically performed over the top of someone else's hard work that has been stolen.

what does free have to do with anything?

most people arent paying for their music. the artists arent making money off of cd/mp3 sales now like 15 years ago

Yup, as an example, B.o.B's mixtape "B.o.B v. Bobby Ray" is better than both of his albums.

For every 1 rapper that writes intelligent lyrics, there are 20 platinum "artists" that write complete stupidity in a rhyming format. Mix tapes tend toward the lowest common denominators.

I don't hate hip hop. I hate the garbage that they're selling as hip hop these days. Same goes with country. Sure, there are some decent artists out there, but the majority are not.

1. I think great tracks are the ultimate end.
2. That said, hip-hop has produced a lot of albums that meet your "journey with stops" criteria. Listen to "my beautiful dark twisted fantasy" or "ATLiens" or "Things Fall Apart".

Seriously:

quote:

I am smoking on that gas, life should be on Cinemax
Movie, bought my boo bigger tits and a bigger arse
Who he’s, not I, I smoke strong, that Popeye
Louie V’s in my archives, black diamonds, apartheid
Bread up and my top down, on the block with a block out
Hit ya arse with that block-ow, dope enough to go in yo nostrils
I take ya girl and kidnap her, feed her to my mattress
A skeleton in my closet, it's probably one of these dead arse rappers
It's probably one these pussy arse ****, don’t try me I’ll pull that trigga
Got ya car note in my cup, and your rent in my swisha
That pussy so good I miss you, head game’s so vicious
And all I get is cheese like I’m taking pictures

Does anyone really want to talk about the effort that went into that?
