dragon fights blew and alduin was pretty much a non interactive fight because it was so shitty

They did get repetitive, but most of them were not required. And for all of the repetitiveness of the oblivion gates, the quests of the game overall were more varied and interesting. When you add in the lack of customization and inferior dlc expansions, Oblivion is the clear winner.
