Mother's definitely gets more love and more hate than would be warranted based on its food quality alone. Seems like everyone thinks it's either a "must go" or a "must avoid."
Cochon. Most people love it, but I'm always surprised at the level of anti-Cochon sentiment that pops up. Very few neutral. I think people from out west bristle a little bit at someone claiming to be a "true" Cajun restaurant in New Orleans, which is understandable to an extent.
One place that is not controversial but IMO should be is Port of Call.

I think its getting there what with the burger proliferation these past few years. Throw up a "best burger in nola" thread and mention POC and you'll get 10 people agreeing with you and 10 people telling you its not even in the top 10.
