Think I'm about to to start Goldsmith. Want to do botanist and carpenter, but not sure if there really is any money in that.

You can make solid money off of carpentry. Carpenter is really easy to level up too. A really nice leve at 35 and one at 45 make getting to 50 a breeze. Not so much for botany. Was a bitch leveling, and that was with turning in just about every quest I could as a botanist. It does make things easier and more profitable for carpenters though.
