how much did you find yourself going to a strategy guide for help ?

Im going to play this game soon and want to get the full experience and enjoyment by not looking up any hints or anything and just doing it on my own, but at the same time I dont want to be wasting hours trying to figure out what to do. and i woulndt want to miss out on any key items/weapons i guess..

Maybe I am showing my age, but I still think FF II and III (US) were the best out of all of them. VII was fun and I remember putting long hours into it back in high school, but the older ones have gotten more repeat plays than any of the newer ones (VII- XIII)

Might be nostalgia, but then again I recently downloaded III on my son's Wii for another play through. So far, it is still holding up.

i had to use it to figured out how to get some of the GFs and a part to create squall's ultimate weapon. other than that it's pretty straightforward
