Steel and aluminum AR mags (with upgraded followers and springs) are pretty darn good too. The future is in polymer technology for weight savings and durability. Magpul is the industry leader in polymer magazines and decided to get in on the action. I agree that they are not necessary, but how much stuff that you have bought in the last few months is really necessary?

I haven't paid $0.01 more than I have to. If the MagPul's are cheaper than steel, I'm all for them. If not, I'll keep buying steel.
And the polymer MagPul's might be. They've been very competitive thus far.
