I guess add me to the book reader list.

I told myself I wasn't going to read the books until after the show concluded but I had a nasty wreck a week ago and I blazed through AGOT.

I will go back and watch the first season now. A lot of things are far more clear to me now, especially family names/lines and the history of Westoros, notably the Targaryens.

There a ton of things left unexplained on the show that the books delve into quite well, and air of missing pieces fell into place once I realized who was related to whom and what battles/wars were fought before the series starts.

The first book mirrors the first season quite well, though I am rewatching it now.

I'm going to read the rest now bc I honestly couldn't put AGOT down.

Do the books stay this riveting or do they slow down a bit?

I just started clash of kings and it has not disappointed so far.

I vow not to spoil anything for non-readers but there is definitely something referenced in AGOT that has me curious why it wasn't included at all in the first season.

If it slips out I will change the thread title to spoilers.

When is book 6 due out?

1-3 are amazing
4 is boring until you read 5, then you'll want to reread 4. there are a lot of new characters

4 and 5 should be read at the same time.

I feel I'm in the minority that preferred AFFC over ADWD. I can't explain it other than I was glad to see new characters and their different perspectives and that I felt not much happened in ADWD.

Reading order for AFFC & ADWD at the same time

Personally I would read each individually the first time (assuming you may want to reread later once the new books come out...hopefully) because that is a lot of information to cover and there are a bunch of new characters. It could be fairly overwhelming the first time through and you might miss out on some big, but subtle things.

The first three keep getting better then it slows down. The later books aren't bad at all, its just hard to live up to the first three.

I assume you mean the fever dream Ned had after his confrontation with Jaime. Yeah, we don't get that either, its crucially important.

This one is grateful for this Ser. I'm currently on my reread of the series but taking breaks here and there for the Tales of Dunk and Egg.

I read book 1 and exhausted. How you people sit around reading 800 pg novels all the time I don't understand.

I've yet to make it through the prologue. I finished the other Saturday night and gave up on Sunday with the other.

I'm on my first read through. I sped through 1, 2, and 3, but I'm now bogged down in 4. I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through and finding it hard to care about some of these people.

I'll have to check that out. I'm not too far in, so it ain't nothing to go back and start over with this order.
