It seems Tigers go without scoring for extended periods due to not grouping hits! Have they played their best baseball early?

Welcome to baseball.

It's probably more accurate to say that last year, we slumped a little too late.

This team was hot for the first half of the year...it is slumping a bit right now...and we'll be hitting the ball well before it is all over.

Doesn't seem like last year at all to me. We also beat USCe 2 of 3 late and look how they did in Omaha.

Funny how they'll get to do the exact same thing this year, isn't it?

I unfortunately try to compare this team to past championship teams...those past teams would have pulled out the 9th inning win on Saturday night. These guys need to learn clutch

Its not just the hitting errors are adding up and besides Nola the others pitchers are starting to look wore out. You know this team is in trouble when Maneri starts to screw with the batting order. Next series Will be a tough one.

Noo man.. they have had quite a tough schedule and this is the very first series loss.. possibly only. Errors cost them yesterday and today none of the hits would go our way. It happens, but this team is still damn strong. Katz needs to get going again, but the back end of the lineup is turning it on!

Glad you've watched this team a lot this year. Pitching with the exception of McCune was FAR from the problem this series.

Yes I think it is time to call this one over. Wave the white flag and give up the west lead.

This. There's always 3 or 4 years from now. Need to just start from scratch.

They were playing great early. Everybody was assuming it would last all year. In baseball that rarely happens. They can pick it back up before tournament time though.

This. Baseball is an incredibly streaky game. We'll get back in the swing of things.

This. Defense can't ever EVER take a day off.

Old saying "pitching and hitting will take days off. Fielding and baserunning can't."

I just wanted to post to somewhat apologize. My smartassed negatiger ways seem to have offended many so I'm gonna reign it in a bit. I just joined the board and would like to save at least a little bit of face so that I can try to have some decent conversations about baseball.

It was an extremely frustrating weekend. Aside from Nola, the team is undeniably in a slump. Most of my comments are just smartassed remarks. I didn't think they would pods people off so much. I don't think the sky is falling but they definetly need to get it together.

We're still in pretty good shape, but I wouldn't say we are a lock. We win 2 of our final 3 series and we'll be fine.

yep. peaked too early.

Nah. In fact, this "slump" may be at a good time.
I think this is the case.

Remember, last season we peaked before the SEC tourney, what with Rhymes' average and all. It got tougher and tougher to keep momentum.

I'm good with us hitting a cold spot now, and cycling back up going into the postseason.

I watched the game today similar to the BCS title game - just waiting for something to happen. Seems like the hitters are way too impatient b/c they are basically all 1st pitch swinging even late in the game when they need to be more patient. The only players who looked composed and patient at the plate were Katz and Jones - you would expect that from them b/c they are seasoned players with a lot of experience in their young careers. Would like to see the other batters learn more patience at the plate. Can't beat anyone if you can't score.....

There are times to work the count, and times to jump on the first pitch.
Of the 32 batters we sent to the plate yesterday, ONE of them struck out ONCE.
ONE of them also walked. ONCE.
SC was throwing strikes.
We aslo hit some hard shots that were just gobbled up. Nothing you can do there.

These are actually the two players I think should take more first pitch hacks, as neither handles breaking balls particularly well. One far worse than the other. Usually you will see more first pitch fastballs. Not set in stone, but more than not.

Maybe, just maybe with Wynkoop being a freshman, if we had run his pitch count up, he may have tired and walked some hitters, or left cookies out for us, but we did put the bat on the ball well for the most part. Just couldn't find grass. That ball hit to left by Ibarra was a cannon shot. Left fielder just picked up his glove and vaccumed it up. Jones smoked a ball.
Mcmullen slammed one in the gap I thought was for extra bases....and so on.

Last week, struck out a ton looking, rant "we need to be more aggressive".

This week, swinging like crazy, rant "we need to be more patient".
