Yep. And I'd explain the situation to them and they'd say "its ok, go back to work and let me know how it plays out" or something like that.

FWIW, the reason I think my company would fire me is not because it's misdemeanor or felony. But because it would show a lack of judgement.
Now, I may be wrong on that. But I try to assume that I'm right and avoid those situations anyway.
